"Joanna has been a phenomenal artist for as long as I’ve known her. When I was ready to publish my second book, The Black Horns, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to feature her work on the cover. We bounced around several ideas, discussing the themes of the book and what type of scene would really jump out and grab a reader’s attention, what would make someone glance at the shelf and say “Oh, that looks interesting!” The image of the cauracua standing triumphant on a table in a smoky room really captures the essence of the seedy underground that is the setting for The Black Horns. The bright blue colors of this fictional half-bird/half-lizard pops out from the hazy silhouettes of the bar patrons, while the money on the table lets you know that something shady is going on. I couldn’t be any happier with the finished work, and look forward to using Joanna’s work in future projects."
"Over the past year, Joanna Hill has taught me a lot about art. She first showed me the basic principles, prompting me to ask questions about what I did not know, and solidifying what I already knew. As time progressed, I learned how to use various mediums and how each one differed from the other. Because Joanna was so patient and thoughtful, I learned at my own pace and enjoyed it as well. Now, armed with the knowledge she trained me to have, I am able to not only create pleasing artwork, but also more fully appreciate the art I see around me, knowing what all is involved to finalize the product. Through Joanna’s love of art, she opened up a whole new world for me and now I love it too. "
